The Great Barrier Reef Authority (GBRMPA) has launched an App and map showcasing daily underwater vision of the sites visited by tourists and locals in the Great Barrier Reef region. Now you can get involved on your next Whitsunday Islands bareboat charter by downloading the ‘Eye on the Reef’ App and posting your images of the reef to help give a snapshot of what the Great Barrier Reef looks like on that day.
The Eye on the Reef monitoring and assessment program enables anyone who visits the Great Barrier Reef to contribute to its long-term protection by collecting valuable information about reef health, marine animals and incidents that is used to understand the bigger picture and inform how we manage the Reef.
Making a difference one upload at a time!
The Eye on the Reef App can be used to capture, submit and share your sightings, photographs and video recordings with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and others. It can also be used an educational tool to find out more about your favourite Great Barrier Reef creatures.
The Great Barrier Reef is a vast and complex ecosystem. Eye on the Reef helps build knowledge about marine species diversity, abundance, habitat and distribution.
The more people report their sightings, the more knowledge will be contributed to science, management and the protection of this World Heritage Listed Area.
Reef visitors have used Eye on the Reef to record thousands of sightings of humpback whales, dwarf minke whales, dugongs, dolphins, whale sharks, birds, sea turtles, and many more Reef creatures.
