Nothing beats kicking back on your back deck and throwing a line in! With an array of tropical fish species found in the Whitsundays including; Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Sweetlip and Cod, fishing success is likely, whether you’re a seasoned fisherman or a casual angler..
All of our boats include fishing guides that contain information on local species and size limits for your catch, while equipment can be hired (or you can bring your own). Rod holders can be attached on request if they’re not a permanent fixture on your chosen vessel.
Fishing Gear
We welcome you to bring your own fishing gear or we can arrange hire for you with everything you need to get a catch. Fishing packs can be hired from $20 per night and bait is available from the marina kiosk.
Fishing Zones
To find the best places and help plan your fishing adventure, your vessel contains a copy of Whitsunday Zoning Map (MPZ10). With the Whitsundays Islands making up part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine park, zoning is in place to protect and maintain our local fish life. There are still plenty of places to drop a line, just take a look at the map below.
Fishing Closures – No Fishing periods
To protect the vulnerable breeding cycles of coral reef fish, the Whitsundays has fishing closures at certain times of the year that prohibits the catch of any fish classified as “reef fin fish”. If you’re planning to fish while chartering make sure you check the dates below to ensure there are no restrictions while you’re at sea. Fish species outside the fisheries’ list of “reef fin fish” are not restricted through these periods.
Year | Fishing Closure 1 | Fishing Closure 2 |
